drama in the attic

So, we're sitting here in the dining room/living room area of the house (first floor) and we hear some noise. The noise seems to be either outside the house, or inside the wall, in the corner where our half meets the tenants' half meets the outside. That corner. We think maybe squirrels are climbing on the overhang, or somehow got into the wall?

Sweet P went outside, upstairs, and downstairs looking for evidence of what-where-how. He comes back to where I am pontificating about law in an online discussion and he tells me that there is a bird in the attic. We assume that whatever (the bird) we heard in the wall, managed to crawl its way up to the attic and is now trying to escape from there. So, our options are to get the attic window open or kill the trespasser. Personally, I don't want to kill it, but I don't mind keeping it at bay so that someone can open the window. So, that is what we do.

It took a few minutes to get the frozen window open, but we did and the bird was smart enough to make a run for it.. or, fly for it. Sweet P resets the have-a-heart trap in case we get any other trespassers, and we come back down stairs.

And there is still noise in the wall over here. What the heck?!

Edited to add: Yup, there was another bird that ended up in the basement. We discovered it on Sunday and Sweet P shooed it out of the house. Insanity. What is going on with these birds? Why, now that it's up to 38 degrees are they trying to get into our house? Maybe we need to get a cat.
