Give a Little Support - round 4

The much promised update on Baking GALS...  Round 4... Team Coffee & Cookies
I had 13 people sign up through the website to mail to my soldier, Cpl. LaBarbera.  I was hoping for 20, but 13 is great.  That is still a lot of cookies, know what I mean?

Above is a picture of the Cowboy (or Ranger) Cookies I made.  (including coconut, oatmeal, raisins & dried cherries)  My dad and brother in law verify that these are very good cookies.  Since I'm not really a coffee drinker either, I asked those 2 guys for coffee recommendations.  Brother in law likes the Wegmans Breakfast Blend and dad likes stronger stuff, like Dunkin Donuts.  I also bought a bag of Kona blend for good measure.  I hope the MPs dig it.

Sue told me that she got some Starbucks coffee, and she baked like a million cookies!  kidding.. it was more like 2 1/2 doz pb cookies, 2 1/2 doz snickerdoodles, and 4 doz oatmeal raisin.  And she makes lovely cakes -- check out her website bakesbysue.com.

These cookies are the aggravating part of my Saturday.  I was trying to make spritz cookies, so they are pretty much a butter cookie base.  The spritzer broke, so I rolled the dough and cut them out instead.  Then, I dipped them in chocolate for good measure, not thinking about the temperature thing.  The chocolate might get kinda messy.  Well, sorry guys.

Instead of using rubbermaid containers, I tried the ziplock vacuum bags this time.  It seems like a pretty good way to package them to me.  I wish I knew how it all comes out after the box travels half way around the world.  Maybe I'll get word back from the Cpl or his wife.  I was able to get more stuff in the box than I had with the plastic containers, so that's good.

What else can I say about Baking Gals?  VERY special thanks and much MUCH appreciation to my partners in crime, my lovely internet friends:

And of course, prayers go out for our men & women overseas.  I hope they are successful in their missions and that they make it home safely.  I hope the boxes make them know we remember them & appreciate them.

If anyone is interested in joining the next round, the Christmas round, please check out www.bakinggals.com.  Join a team, bake your speciality, and share the love, joy & homebaked goodness of Christmas with people who can't be home for Christmas.

That's all for now.  Hopefully I'll get some other random pictures and bits of life up on the blog soon.  But this was important.  I'm glad this little project is done!

I'd love to hear if you get any feedback on how the vacuum bags traveled. I think that would be perfect, because I actually had to send two boxes to fit all my cookies.
