inspiration at unlikely moments

This semester, Thursdays are my long day. Plus, by the time I get to Thursday, I'm just tired anyway from all the running around of Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday!

Today I had my usual gauntlet of classes, then off to teach piano lessons to my protégé. Because there is a test coming up, I decided to head back to campus after the piano lesson for a tutoring/supplemental history lesson. This is the first extra history session that I have attended, and I really didn't want to, but I do want a good grade... so "just do it".

Unfortunately, the instructor never showed up. 24 people waiting for this class, and... nothing. I was a little annoyed by this, but there was a bright side. I had packed in my bag a book/magazine by women who have started their own businesses for women who want to start their own business. It had some really inspiring information!

Most of these women are artsy-craftsy types and not really (or not initially) business-types. But if you are going to start a business and have it be successful, you need to have a little bit (at least) of business knowledge. Now, I consider myself more business-y and not very arts-y, but I do love doing creative, colorful, beautifying things when I have the time. I guess it is more of a hobby, though. I loved the pictures in the book of the works, store displays, etc. It almost inspired me to want to start a knitting business. Not sure what that would actually be, but knitting is very relaxing to me, and I love the fabric that is created by strategic twisting of yarns. I would have to find a way to inspire others to love these things and want to pay me money for them.

More realistically, however, I was inspired to actually *do something* about my business idea. I am learning to be an accountant/auditor. I have a heart for God, spiritual things, and missionaries (the people who devote their lives to sharing God with others). So, I need to find out what need missionaries or churches have that I might be able to fill as an accountant/auditor/businesswoman.

I made a mental list of people to talk to, plus I'm sure some internet research could give me some answers. My gut keeps telling me that this isn't a way to make a living, that I will need to have a drudgery job in order to pay the bills so that I can do this charitable work on the side. But maybe my gut is wrong? This definitely needs more investigation!

So, annoyances aside (and dread of not doing well on the upcoming exam--eek!), I'm glad I had the "free" half hour to read some of this book and be inspired about being a businesswoman.
