my weekend in a nutshell

Every so often, I get the hankering to cook. Real food. New recipes. Something different. Fortunately for my family, the hankering awoke in the days before Mother's Day. I found a recipe for alfredo sauce and decided that some pasta, chicken and broccoli would make the meal complete. Can I just say -- this was so good!

Funny thing is that the cake was not so hot. I do a lot more baking than cooking of entrees, so I would have expected more trouble out of the sauce than the cake. But the cake was the fussy part of the endeavor. First, it required three bowls to mix. Then it stuck in the pan and didn't want to come out (came out with chunks missing). Finally, I screwed up the frosting, and by the time we got the cake to Mom's house, the frosting was melting off and sliding down. Weird. But who cares what the chocolate cake looks like? It is chocolate after all!

So, this weekend I did a lot more cooking and eating that running or tracking of points. Win some, lose some. The alfredo (with heavy cream, real butter and zingy parmesan) sauce is gone. Time to get back on the healthy track.
