trying new foods

The challenge this week is to fight boredom by trying new foods. I don't like this challenge. I'm a picky eater, married to a super-picky eater. I'm very content with the foods I like and avoid the ones I don't. However, in the spirit of the challenge, I will try a new recipe. How about that?

I made a ham & pineapple calzone type deal. Homemade pizza dough, a bit of cheddar and mozzarella cheese, diced up ham, chunks of pineapple (crushed probably would have worked better). Fold it over, press the edges with a fork to get it to stick together. A bit of butter or oil or egg-white-wash on the top so it cooks nicely (I used butter). Oven for about 20 min on 400. TADA!

I had also made from scratch some tomato sauce, in which I dipped the calzone. That was from a few days ago (can of diced tomatoes, can of tomato paste, season with whatever floats your boat).

I also tried something different eating out. TGI Friday has "just right portion" meals on their menu. There is nothing low-fat or diet-ish about these selections, but they are smaller, more normal sized portions than other things on the menu. I tried the parmasean chicken; it came with about 4 tortellinis in alfredo sauce and an insalata caprese (tomato-mozzarella-basil). Very nice.

So, that is my adventures in weight watching this week. And I lost 1 lb.
