The discussion this week revolved around portion sizes, and how do we know how much of a food we are eating, and how to know how many points to count. I am pretty good about measuring food items with measuring cups and spoons. Sometimes I weary of doing this ([rant]i feel it is totally unfair that i have to spend my life counting pretzels and measuring 1/2 cups of cheerios when other people don't have to live this way [end rant]), but I know it is best for me to measure everything. I do not have a food scale, however. Some foods are best weighed rather than measure. If I really wanted to meet this challenge, I would have to get a scale and start weighing things that cannot be measured like pieces of meat and baked potatoes. But measuring cups are a good place to start.
At any rate, that was the challenge this week: be sure to weigh or measure everything to see if your "eyeballing" is on target or if you've been over- or under-estimating. And I did not do too much of the challenge this week, just because life got in the way a bit. I did bake some pumpkin-chocolate chip cookies and added oatmeal and calculated how many points per cookie (2.5). That's something. I didn't measure my breakfast cereal every morning. Live and learn.
I did, however, realize a "non-scale victory". I have a pair of brown slacks that I bought this winter because some of my other slacks were getting too tight. This week when I put on the brown slacks I noticed that the waistband was looser on me. I'm very happy about this, and long for the day I will fit back into my other slacks. It will happen!
